'DEEP CONNECTION'

Seniwati Gallery for women is delighted to reintroduce Australian born and trained artist Jo Odessa for her second solo exhibition titled 'Deep Connection'

The images in this show express the artists interest in our deep and absolute connection with the environment, and the elements, often not a part of our conciousness in our daily lives. The physical beauty of Bali, and its sometimes sudden atmospheric shifts, offers the artist those moments of connection.

Her concern for the environment is expressed not in the painting of a pile of garbage, or in painting a landscape, but through expressing those moments when we are fully emersed in nature's beauty. Coming from a background in abstract expressionism, the artist is interested in the emotive quality of colour and her work is rich in colour, light and contrast. Strong colour is used as the medium to evoke the emotion of those moments of deep connection with our surroundings. The figurative images merge with the sky, water, sunrise or sunset. Our lack of separation from the environment is expressed by a lack of separation between the figure and the background or by an overlapping of images. The artist is attempting to remind us of our integral connection through those moments of awe in the face of the natural beauty around us.

"Deep Connection" opens at the Senwati Showspace, Ubud Main street, on Saturday 6.30pm - 9.00pm on the 24th August and runs till 12th September 2002.
